Charter schools are tuition-free public schools created through an agreement or “charter” between the school and the local school board. This agreement provides the charter school a measure of expanded freedom in comparison to a traditional public school. This flexibility is given the school in exchange for the school’s commitment to higher standards of accountability and certain results.
